Essential Functions As the Town Planner and Department Head for the Town of Branford, a successful candidate will plan, organize, conduct and supervise a comprehensive planning and development program for the community including: drafting, interpreting and administering zoning and subdivision regulations: formulating, updating and implementing land use plans: preparing grant applications and supervising funded projects; and communicating land use policies, plans and regulations to Town boards and Commissions
 
Qualification Requirements; The position requires a Master’s degree in urban and regional planning, community development or related degree from an accredited college or program and working knowledge of GIS.. Candidate must have over seven (7) years of experience in planning or community development  and over three (3) years of supervisory experience or any equivalent combination of education, training and work experience.
 
Selection Process:  Formal application; oral interview and reference check.
 
The Town of Branford reserves the right to limit the number of qualified candidates who will be considered for the position.
The files of all qualified candidates will be maintained for a minimum of six months from the announcement date, and the qualified candidates will be considered for the same or similar positions which may become available during this timeframe.
 
All candidates not employed by the Town of Branford, prior to employment, must successfully pass a post-offer medical examination, which includes a substance abuse test given at the Town's expense.
 
The Town of Branford has implemented a policy of comprehensive background investigations for positions to be completed prior to hiring as part of the reference checking procedures for candidates not already employed by the Town.  The investigation may be conducted as the last step prior to an offer.  Refusal to sign the release form will terminate the candidate from further consideration.
