Dog Treats Recall: 'Boots & Barkley' & PetCo' Among Brands

The dog treats manufacturer Kasel Associated Industries is voluntarily recalling all products manufactured at its Colorado facilty from April 20, 2012 to Sept. 19, 2012 due to possible salmonella contamination, according to an FDA news bulletin. 

The FDA reports that the recalled products were distributed nationwide through various retailers from April 20 to Sept. 19 last year. (A full list of lot numbers and "best by" dates is posted below)

Recalled Brands

Kasel Industries is now recalling the following brands:

• Boots & Barkley
• BIXBI
• Nature’s Deli
• Colorado Naturals
• Petco
• Best Bully Stick

Kasel Industries has not received any reports of illnesses to date in connection with these products, according to the FDA.

Salmonella Poisoning Symptoms

Salmonella can sicken animals that eat these products and humans are at risk for salmonella poisoning from handling contaminated pet products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the pet products or any surfaces exposed to these products.

Healthy people infected with salmonella should monitor themselves for some or all of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever.

Pets with salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets will have only decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain.

Customers Urged to Return Products

No other products made by Kasel Associated Industries are included in the recall. Specifically no products with best by dates after the specified ranges are included in the recall.

Consumers who have purchased any listed products are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
