Community Group Seeks to Renovate Branford Playgrounds

The project, a joint effort between parents and Branford Parks & Rec Department, seeks to renovate two playgrounds at Hammer Field. And they are seeking residents' input via an online survey.

Several local residents have joined together with town officials to spearhead an effort to conduct much-needed improvements to two downtown playgrounds.

The Branford Community House Playground Improvement Project is a collaborative between Branford parents, the Branford Parks and Recreation Department, as well as other community members, with the goal of renovating the two playgrounds at Hammer Field.

"Our vision is to create an inclusive and accessible play environment for children of all ages and abilities, funded through a public-private collaboration," group members stated in a press release Saturday.

According to the group, the playgrounds currently in place were built in 1990, have weathered through time, and do not meet current ADA Standards for Accessible Design.

"As part of this process we are seeking feedback and support from Branford’s parents, caregivers, and all community members so that the design of the playgrounds can reflect the needs and preferences of the community," the group stated.

With the help of The Branford Early Childhood Collaborative the collaborative has created a survey to gather residents' feedback.  The survey can be found here.

The survey, which can be found here, is open to all respondents for the next two weeks.

"Please take a few minutes to provide your input, and please share it with other Branford residents on social media or via an email link," the group stated.
