Coming Soon! Blackstone Library Book Sale

The library's biggest fundraiser will be here soon on September 19-22 on the Branford Town Green.

It's the biggest thing to hit Branford since, well, since books have been in existence.

It's the James Blackstone Memorial Library's Friends of the Library annual book sale on the Branford Town Green.

Just imagine: almost 75,000 books from romance to science fiction to cooking to sports to coffee table books ... something for every reader. (That's almost as many books as the library itself has!)

The Book Sale runs:

  • Thursday, Sept. 19, 5pm-8pm (this is a preview night for Friends of the Blackstone Library only)
  • Friday, Sept. 20, 9am-8pm
  • Saturday, Sept. 21, 9am-8pm
  • Sunday, Sept. 22, 12pm-5pm Fill a bag with all the books you can for $10 from 12pm-3pm; fill two bags for $10 from 3pm-5pm

"This has become an annual event which is looked forward to by many people from all over," said Betsy Klarman, president of the Blackstone Friends of the Library. "We have a huge tent with about 75,000 books in many categories including a special children's section."

Klarman said "the purpose of the sale is to raise money to support the beautiful Blackstone Library in Branford."

"The Friends contribute to non-operational expenses," she added. "The Library Director attends all our meetings and gives us her requests.  Some of the things we support are the children's programs, museum passes, monthly lectures and entertainment programs."

The sale brings out the book-lover in all of us.

"It is interesting to note that in this electronic age in which we live, that people are still buying and reading real books," said Klarman. "Many folks have found a book which they have been looking for for along time.  For others it might be additions to their personal libraries with classic books.  Cookbooks are always popular finds."

But don't head to the actual library for the sale - it is held on the Branford Green!

"Being held outside in a tent is different from many other library sales which are held in libraries or schools and it lends an old New England small town feel to the sale," added Klarman.

See you at the book sale!
