Columbus Day 2013 Activities in Branford

There's a parade on Sunday, Oct. 13 in Branford to celebrate Columbus Day.

The town of Branford goes all out for Columbus Day weekend which takes place this years from October 12-14, with Monday, Oct. 14 as the designated holiday. 

Columbus Day Committee secretary and publicity chair Magdalen Sparaco said they have a wonderful parade planned filled with bands, floats, vehicles, and more. The governor, lieutenant governor and state officials will take part in the march. 

"The parade is the longest and best presented with over 130 units marching to the celebration," said Sparaco.

The parade's origins began in New Haven to promote Italian heritage, she noted. 

"As people moved to the suburbs, we rotate the parade out to the towns each year," she said.

Sunday, October 13

The Columbus Day Parade kicks off at 1:30pm in the Town of Branford.  To facilitate with the ease of parking, a shuttle bus will run from the Branford Railroad Station and the Cherry Hill Commuter lot to the Branford Green and back. There is additional parking at St. Mary’s School on Cedar Street.
