Brushy Plain Milling and Paving Project Underway

Roadwork at exit 54 will add to the traffic delays in the area.

It seems everywhere you drive in Branford, you see bright orange signs and construction vehicles. In addition to the ongoing work at the Amtrak bridge (watch out as the traffic pattern has shifted there!), there are other projects underway as well.

The Connecticut Department of Transportation has begun the milling and resurfacing project along Brushy Plain Road and residents are already seeing the effects when it comes to traffic delays.

According to the DOT, "the project consists of milling and resurfacing 1.36 miles of SR 740 in Branford. This project is scheduled to August 1-14, 2013. The resurfacing segment of this project is anticipated to be performed on Monday, August 12 to Wednesday afternoon August 14, 2013."

The work will take place from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays and require lane closures. Traffic control personnel and signing patterns will be utilized to guide motorists through the work zone.

"Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions," stated the press release on the DOT's website. "Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this vicinity."

In addition to the milling and paving project, another project is underway in the same area as a Pavement Preservation Project on I-95 Northbound in Branford at the exit 54 off-ramp will require lane closures on Aug. 6 and 7 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Also, a night closure of the right lane on I-95 Northbound will occur on Tuesday August 6, 2013, between 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. The work will take place from just north of the Lake Saltonstall Bridge before Exit 53 (Branford Connector) to Exit 54 (Cedar Street) in Branford, according to the DOT. The project work includes installation of loop detectors at the I-95 northbound Exit 54 off ramp, and the installation of pavement markings at the gore areas of Exit 53.
