The parade, and more this weekend.

You've got the day off. You're getting to see friends or family you haven't seen in a while. You've been waiting for a chance to fire up the grill.

And Patch has your guide to this year's Memorial Day Parade, and all the other great things to do on Sunday and Monday of your three-day weekend.

Branford residents will see plenty of excitement and fun at tomorrow's Memorial Day parade, starting at 10 a.m. on the Town Green and progressing down Main Street to Harbor Street.

Taking the Grand Marshall spot this year is Sgt. Maj. Brian Miniter, a Branford veteran of Vietnam and Iraq with more than 30 years of service. Miniter's wife Linda and daughter Kimberly will serve as his aides for the parade, and he will be escorted to the Town Green by two humvees and eight troopers from the National Guard's 102nd Infantry. (And if you're on the Green, look for a flyover from the 102nd around 10:15!)

During the ceremony on the Green preceding the parade, look for Capt. Vincent Giorgano as Master of Ceremonies and a benediction from Rev. Yung Shik-Kim of the United Methodist Church of Branford. Two students will present their essays on the subject "What Memorial Day Means to Me."

For those who feel like getting up earlier, two parades will precede the main town parade and offer an opportunity to pay even more respect to Branford's fallen. At 8 a.m., Lt. Cnl. Peter Brainerd of will lead a parade from the village flagpole to Stony Creek Cemetery, where the American Legion and Brainerd's veterans will pay tribute to the fallen with Taps, a volley of gunfire, and a reading of the names of the 99 soldiers buried in the cemetery. And at 9:15 a.m., Branford's Naval Parade will begin at Hubbard Bridge and lead to the Town Green, featuring music from Leah Whitten and the BHS Marching Band.

The parade isn't the only great way to get out on the town during your extended weekend. Sunday's big event is the opening of the Stony Creek Museum, which begins at 4 p.m. with music by the Stony Creek Fife and Drums Corps. The museum is at 84 Thimble Islands Rd.

If you can't make that, here are some other great things to do Sunday and Monday:
