Branford Group Looking To Ban Sale Of Dogs, Cats And Rabbits In Town

The group is looking to fight against "puppy mills."

Several Branford residents are pushing for the town to become the first municipality in the state to ban the retail sale of dogs, cats and rabbits.

The Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter Commission is looking to convince the Branford Representative Town Meeting to ban retailers from selling dogs, cats and rabbits in town to avoid "puppy mills," or businesses who raise pets in poor conditions to make larger profits, according to the New Haven Register. However, the owner of All Pets Club - a chain of pet stores that has a location in Branford - disagreed.

“We’re regulated and I’m not sure what this world is coming to,” Jerry Pleban, owner of All Pets Club, told the newspaper. “My mother always said if you don’t like something, mind your own business."
