A Peaceful Night: Stony Creek Christmas Pageant [PHOTOS]

Stony Creek Christmas Pageant brings comfort during a difficult time.

Last week, just a little more than 24 hours after the tragic events in Newtown, Branford residents were able to find solace thanks to the organizers of the live outdoor Christmas Pageant hosted by Church of Christ Congregational in Stony Creek.

Two thousand luminaries, starting from the top of Thimble Island Road, led the way through several live scenes re-enacting the birth of Christ. Residents held their children just a little tighter than normal, as they each made their way through this beautiful holiday display on a crisp and clear winter night.

Many residents strolled along the lit sidewalks, past the Creek’s young children, who acted the live pageant, which included several stations: The Angel's Announcement to Mary, Joseph's Dream, Crowded Inn at Bethlehem, Shepherds Keeping Watch, The Nativity, the Three Kings, and the Flight to Egypt. Live animals also helped bring these scenes to life, including one very protective beagle.

The Stony Creek Fife and Drum Corps, Allegro Performing Arts Academy, and several walking carolers, entertained patrons of the pageant.

This pageant was the last for Rev. Wayne Jacobson who is retiring from the Church of Christ Congregational.

Donations were collected for the Branford Food Pantry and the Community Dining Room.

Thanks to the Church and residents of Stony Creek for opening this event to the public for the community to enjoy. It was a real gift, especially during a time when so many needed to experience a moment of peace.
