Community Corner

Visual Journaling for Middle-Schoolers at Tabor Community Arts Center

Tabor Community Arts Center (TCAC) in Branford is currently accepting applications for a new fall course entitled "Visions of Ourselves: Art and Writing for Visual Journaling." The course is open to students in grades 5-8 and will be held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 4:00-5:00 p.m. at TCAC.

"Visions of Ourselves: Art and Writing for Visual Journaling" will teach students a unique form of self-expression by helping them to make connections between visual art and the written word. Moving beyond a "diary" format, the course will encourage students to reflect more deeply on their developing identities and the way they interact with the world. They will write in poetry and prose, and then represent their emotions and observations creatively through visual art projects. At the end of the course, students will have crafted a richly textured journal combining introspective language with art collage, sketches, photography, self-portraits and more.

Students are encouraged to attend both days of the course in order to create a complete journal. For more information or to register for the course, please contact Susan Suppe, Executive Director of TCAC, by phone at 203-488-5668 or email at tabor_arts@yahoo.com.
