GENEALOGY - LEARN HOW TO RESEARCH YOUR ANCESTORS

Learn how to research your ancestors. A fun and exciting pursuit of ancestral knowledge. Two classes: Class 1: Lecture and Power Point presentation, discussion, hand-outs and genealogy publications. Participants will learn how to fill out a Pedigree Chart in class. Class 2: Review of Pedigree Charts to be used for “live” internet searches, exploring on-line resources, interpretation of Census and other records. roundtable introductions to learn what each person’s interests, obstacles and objectives are for their own family research. A short power point presentation defining best practices in research, organization, documentation and available resources. Each participant will be given instruction on how to fill out a pedigree chart in class which will be used as a “map” for searching the internet. “Live” internet web searches to demonstrate what records may be found on the internet for clues to their ancestry and how to interpret the results. Students will be instructed on how to fill out a pedigree chart in class, so any names and dates they have knowledge of for their direct ancestors will be helpful. Teacher will supply copies of the chart along with a list of internet web addresses for genealogy resources.
