In recognition of the Thanksgiving holiday, Mrs. Julia Verrillo's 3rd grade class at Tisko Elementary school decided to honor our troops serving in Afghanistan. Specifically, they chose to honor Army Specialist Tyler Caporale of Branford stationed with the 101st airborne combat team.

Shortly after his graduation from BHS in 2011 Tyler entered basic training in Fort Benning Georgia. Five months later in May of 2012 he relocated to Fort Campbell Kentucky where he joined the air assault airborne school. In April of 2013 Tyler embarked on his current deployment to Afghanistan.

After being shown a photo of Tyler working in active duty & learning some basic information about Tyler the children set to work, each making him a festive holiday card including words of thanks & encouragement. Next they had fun crafting snowflakes to put into a care package full of supplies sent in by all the class parents. The children listened intently as it was explained how all the items being sent were things we use every day that are not always available to the soldiers. The package will be shipped to Afghanistan to arrive in time for the Christmas holiday
