CONGRATS TO BRANFORD GIRLS SOFTBALL REC ALL-STARS!!

The Branford Girls Rec All-Star Team won the 2014 Firecracker Tournament on June 28th at Foote Park in Branford.

The team dropped its opener against a tough East Haven squad that only allowed Team Branford 1 run over 6 innings, the final

Score was 4-1. Branford started their next game in the losers bracket against an always tough North Haven team and as the game went back and forth Branford found itself down a couple of runs going into the 6th inning but the kids from Team Branford would not be denied as they scrapped and battled to score four runs taking a lead into the bottom of the 6th inning with North Haven still to bat. Sophia Araneo came in to close the game out and did just that striking out two of the final 3 outs to move Team Branford into the finals.

Team Branford would meet up with Team East haven again in the deciding game, right away Team Branford struck as they scored in The first inning. Sophia Araneo was a power house in this game striking out multiple batters during the course of the game and the Branford defense tightened its grip as well playing solid ball for 6 innings as the Branford bats did their part scoring 9 runs to take the Championship game in front of their home town fans winning 9-4 against a very good East Haven team.
