Since many people have been wondering what is the that you see on the Patch.com occasionally, we thought we might tell you more about it. We've been raising money for ALS, more commonly referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease for about one and a half years, in that time we've raised over $1,000 through our program called Lemonade for a Cure.
It all started out one day when we were raising money for the and our friend, who later became the chief financial officer of The Awesome Lemonade Stand, suggested that we raise money to find a cure for ALS. The reason why our friend, Lisa Schweizer, suggested it was because her brother had ALS. The next stand we did was our first Lemonade for a Cure stand; where we weren't even The Awesome Lemonade Stand yet, but the Lemonade, Fruit Punch, Iced Tea Stand. We had 3 Lemonade for a Cure stand's that summer raising approxametly $609 to find a cure for ALS.
In the middle of that summer we changed our name to The Awesome Lemonade Stand, and it's been with us ever since our first stand with that name the day before Hurricane Irene hit the Connecticut Shoreline. At that stand we raised $175 to find a cure for ALS and had to close early also because of the Hurricane.
How we got to our current location at the Indian Neck Firehouse is also what has people wondering, so we'll debunk it for you. From 2010 to mid summer 2011 we were raising money for the Firehouse and spliting it 50/50 with them, and not making as much as now, even after our move from our Headquarters, on a small street on the shore, to the Firehouse mid summer 2010. The move definetly helped raise the money from an average of $15 made at a stand to an average of $55 made at a stand.
The Awesome Lemonade Stand is also very modern with it's own Facebook Page at facebook.com/AwesomeLemonade along with a great website and even talk about releasing their own App onto smartphones everywhere. They also manage a page for the street that they are Headquartered on and publish a weekly newsletter about the street's news.
So far this summer we have raised over $700 to find a cure, not exactly the amount we wanted to be at by this point, but we still have about 3 more stands that people can help to find a cure for ALS by the end of summer coming up. We really hope that this helps you to understand how the Awesome Lemonade Stand became so Awesome today.
