After School Arts for Middle-Schoolers at Tabor Community Arts Center

The Tabor Community Arts Center (TCAC) is accepting applications for its After School Arts education program for students in grades K-8, with a number of spots available for students grades 5-8. Tuition fees are on a sliding scale. Bus transportation to TCAC is provided by school bus for students in the Branford school system.TCAC programming provides a unique learning experience for middle-schoolers in grades 5-8, offering students an in-depth look at the creative arts. Classes focus on a variety of interests, ranging from creative writing to visual/performance arts like painting, drawing, sculpture and acting.TCAC offers rotating class sessions taught by visiting artists, writers and other professionals who lend their expertise to students wanting to further develop their creative skills. Recent examples of classes taught by visiting artists include: invention design, based on the works of famous inventor Rube Goldberg; book-making and book-binding; and visual/performance poetry, a class that culminated in a student-led poetry reading.This fall TCAC will be offering two new classes entitled "Visions of Ourselves: Art and Writing for Visual Journaling."  Combining both art and writing, students will create their own unique journals, reflecting their current interests and passions. Middle school students may also take yearlong classes in Art and Creative Writing.Class sizes for grades 5-8 at TCAC is 10 students or less, allowing teachers and visiting artists to work easily with each class as a whole as well as to focus on individual students’ needs and skill levels.
