WPLR Radio Personality Charged With Assault

Wallingford resident Michael Lapitino, 56, was arrested July 25 in Branford on a charge of third-degree assault after turning himself into Branford Police Headquarters at 11:30 a.m.

Branford police obtained a warrant to arrest Lapitino for an incident that allegedly took place at 12:30 p.m. on June 9 at 11 Business Park Drive. According to police, the third-degree assault charge stems from a domestic issue.

The female victim reported the alleged assault to Branford police on June 10 at 8:30 p.m. Lapitino was contacted by police and willingly reported to the department on June 12 to give a statement, according to court documents.

At that time, the court documents reports, the victim did not want to press charges. But given the nature of the incident, a warrant was issued for Lapitino’s arrest, police said.

Lapitino, the afternoon 99.1 WPLR radio personality whose show airs 2 to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, is best known as "your old buddy Lappy." WPLR is based in Milford.

No plea was entered when Lapitino appeared in court yesterday, July 26. A protective order was issued, according to court documents. His next court date is scheduled for Aug. 23.
